I wanted to created a dinosaur-elephant creature that would have a similar sacred role that elephants have in India.

Native to the Vrok homeworld, these gentle giants are beloved by the locals for their tremendous strength, gentle nature, and physical beauty. They're often used as a short ranged transport.

I want to ride one!

Me too! Seems like the nicest of critters.

I assume there are wild ones without the chair as well?

Haha, yup! The chair is Vrok BotaniTech.

Is it engineered to grow on their back, or is it just attached?

It's just attached, but that would be interesting if it were engineered to grow there, like a realistic Bulbasaur XD

It could give a sort of ethics question as to what is too much.

If the engineering was less painful then attachment, is it better or worse to genetically alter them?

Either way it's all about the ideas

Indeed! They might just naturally have those growths, like a sort of symbiosis. Could be what allowed the Vrok to pursue BotaniTech to begin with!

I like it. You can tell they are from the same planet. I've tried to theme my creatures the same way, but with limited success.

I'd love to see whatever you got, man! I'll give pointers where I can.
